Rowdy Elephants, Third Version, Or Is It The Fourth?

Here’s another version of the kids encountering the slowpoke elephants crossing the rope bridge and in the process destroying it. The square outline shows the “safe” portion of the square 8x8-inch page. I will have to resize the image for the print version if I want to include the entire rope bridge.. The ePub version will use the full-width picture.

Alfresco Art Club: Gradient Map Challenge (continued)

gradian_map_alfresco_blog_11-8-2020.png, gradiant map, Procreate, Photoshop

Last week’s Al Fresco Art Club challenge was to color a comic cell using gradient maps in combination with a gray scale painting. I used Procreate’s built-in gradient maps for the first time and came up with this very digital look, which I definitely would never use for anything. Procreate’s gradient maps are easy enough to use, and it’s easy to create custom gradients. I do understand the value of using gradient maps for rapid production and for easily adjusting colors.

It was a fun challenge, but I don’t have a use for gradient maps in my books. Maybe someday I’ll see the light.

Still Working on the Giant Burritos, Part 5

burritos_again_blog.png,marker brush, clip studio paint, children's picture book

I have several more days work to do here and I’m running out of titles for this picture. “Still Working” is starting to lose it’s charm. I remind myself that it’s an inch a day, every day, and eventually this will be completed.

When I step away from the screen, I can see that the colors are overly saturated. I’ll fix that…eventually. And I can see that the owner of the cafe, Senor Jaguar, is looking really mean and scary in his t-shirt. And that glare he’s giving the kids makes me wonder what’s going on in his mind?
