Checking in

Today was a big work day. In two weeks my workload will double when two short-term intensive project begin. I’ll have about 70 souls to shepherd through the material. In the meantime I have some medical appointments on the calendar and the fence guys are coming next week. That’s I’m up to. As for my book and future books, they are like lights in the dark. I can’t tell if they’re coming towards me of receding. I haven’t given up on them.

The Volcano Demon Dreams of Being a Football Hero

I finished work a little early today. The stage is set for a rush of business on Monday. The excitement usually lasts about two weeks while the customers settle in or cancel out. During that time, I’m likely work later than usual, and the book languishes. The best I can do is brainstorm.

Today I thought it would be a good idea to give the volcano demon a likeable quality. She’s a monster, but she’s got dreams. She always wanted to be a soccer star, but her parents wanted her to take over the family business. So she became a volcano demon who has dreams. To show her dreaming of kicking a soccer ball, I tunneled into my archives and exhumed one of my first drawings, Kitty Katnap, the soccer playing omni-sexual cat. He was originally a British Blue, but I turned him into an orange tabby for this page.
