Creating A Blog Header Image

This is the first draft of my blog header image. It introduces two new characters, Sally Whale and Molly Moai. Molly doesn’t look much like a moai yet — her head’s not quite the right shape. The image also needs a background with clouds and mountains, and maybe a volcano or two. After all, there is a dormant volcano on Easter Island. I would draw a tree or two, but there are none to draw — the last tree on Easter Island was chopped down for firewood in 1960.

While I was brainstorming this picture, I realized that I needed two new characters for my book: a whale and a nature spirit. I’ve had whales on my brain for the past week, and I’ve always wanted to include a moai in the book as a character, not just as a piece of carved stone. By the time I finished my first draft, I found Sally Whale and Molly Moai. I’ll have fun figuring out how to draw these girls!
