Should comic characters have four fingers or five? T

In this picture I’m thinking having both Betty and Jimmy on one dolphin is looking crowded. Perhaps I could use another dolphin. I’m going to think about it.

Here I’m thinking of a way for Dylan to introduce the second dolphin. I’m thinking the new character would be his sister, Dolly Dolphin.

I’m also thinking that all of my anthropomorphic characters might look better if they had 5 fingers. Hmmm. Real hands are harder to draw, but they look better. Just glancing at them, my brain says they look weird, like their little finger has been cut off. That’s a chilling thought for a children’s picture book.

Yet Another Dolphin Concept Sketch

I worked late again at my outside job, until 6:30 pm. My aim is always to clock out a 4 pm and then get back to working on my book. It doesn’t always work out that way.

As for my book, I had about one hour to work on it, so I sketched a scene showing the dolphin character, who has magically turned into a little boy dolphin named Dylan, talking with Jimmy and Betty after pulling them out of the water.
