Too static and not too static

The sketch on the right was my fourth attempt to draw the orange tabby shrugging her shoulders apologetically. I changed my strategy with the picture on the left and sketched with a fuzzy brush, which the Clip Studio Paint “design pencil” is. Fuzzy is better, in this case.

The foreshortening of her hands was the most difficult part of the sketch. When I realized I was floundering, I took some photos of myself doing her pose. I have to keep reminding myself to obey the rules I make for myself, the first of which is, Before sketching get some good reference photos.

Picture #30, Buddy Takes the Blame

This drawing is 100% digital. I had to recreate the “Buddy Takes the Blame” picture because I used the original version for the “Buddy Asks to Join the Jay Family” picture. I got lazy, and today was payback time. This picture took about one hour to draw. Momma Jay looks a little upset!

#17, Jimmy Apologizing for Being a Respectful Son

With this image, I’m about half done with re-inking all of the images for my children’s picture book. Sometimes I don’t change anything, and sometimes I have to move arms and legs around. Mostly I’m just tracing. I may have mentioned that I’m using a built-in Procreate brush called the “monoline inker.” It’s doesn’t have much character, but it does produce a consistent line.
